Jack Murphy was a South End native who graduated from Boston College High School and was killed tragically when he was struck by lightning while camping in Wyoming in 2022.
As a child in Boston, Jack and many of his friends met as toddlers at Ringgold Park, and stayed in touch through sports, and gatherings of family and friends. He attended the Park Street School on Beacon Hill, and Buckingham Browne & Nichols School in Cambridge before entering Boston College High School. After Jack graduated from BC High, he studied at the University of Colorado-Boulder. Jack was a student at the National Outdoor Leadership School in Lander, Wyoming, and was part of a group of adult students participating in a Wilderness First Responder expedition at the time of his death.
Jack was raised in the South End but spent time in Sunapee, N.H., with friends and family, where he learned to ski, skate, hike, and embrace his love for the outdoors.
We honor Jack’s memory through a plaque and memorial tree to remember his love for nature and the memories and friendships that he and so many other young children create in such special childhood years at Ringgold Park.
